Where to upload rss.hbs?

Hi all,

I’m following the official docs for generating a Podcast RSS feed. The YAML was no problem. However, the docs stop short of telling one where to upload the rss.hbs file. Or perhaps I’m just dumb, idk. I’m on Ghost Pro so I can’t login to the server, that I know of, can I?

Thanks

Download the theme (settings > theme > change theme > installed)
Unzip (use any tool on your computer that does this.
Put the file in.
Zip.
Upload (button on the same page where you downloaded the theme).

Thank you, Cathy. That was very helpful.

Unfortunately, it seems I need the Creator plan. That means I have to pay nearly 3x the price just to add podcast capability? Really, Ghost? That suuuccckkksss…

There’s really no other way?

(In case you missed it: I don’t work for Ghost. I’m a volunteer moderator. If you want to complain to Ghost.org, use their support address. They do listen.)

Ghost.org isn’t the only hosting option. It’s excellent quality hosting, and your subscription fees support the dev team that brings us Ghost-the-open-source-orject, but they’re not the only option. More on my blog if you’re interested, including some less expensive alternatives:
Where to host your Ghost site?

Many people who do podcasts and use Ghost for their show notes and newsletter don’t actually use Ghost to host the podcast files. Instead, they just link to it. The Wave theme is set up specifically for this, and includes directions (although IMO they’re hacky) for how to add the link to your podcast episode.

You could use externally-hosted podcast files with any theme - just get the podcast provider’s embed code, and drop it in the top of your blog post, and you’re off to the races.

I personally would love to see better podcast support baked into Ghost, but it hasn’t happened yet. (Small teams, lots of priorities.)

Thank you, Cathy. It was clear that you didn’t work for Ghost. And I am grateful for your help.

Please pardon my frustration, it was entirely directed at Ghost. I think charging 3x to upload a file is silly. I will look elsewhere, as you suggest.

Have a nice day. :)
