Advice on learning about Ghost

Hi there I’m looking at setting up a niche newsletter/website using Ghost next year. It will mix free and paywalled content, the latter available for a reasonable subscription.

My background is writing/content creation.

I want to create a mini training programme for myself so I can hit the ground running when I launch the site next year.

Any advice on learning about Ghost? Any good podcasts? Particularly good sources of excellent training material?

Does anyone think I need to learn about the technical side of this interesting CMS?

Anything to focus on? Anything to avoid?

Thanks

If you go to a managed solution like Magic Pages, Synapse Media, or mine that’s based in the US, you don’t need to know the technical side of things. Of course, if you want, you definitely can.
Ghost is pretty much straight forward and really simple to use compared to Wordpress, which quickly gets bloated with plugins.

I want to say, that the most technical thing on the GUI of Ghost is understanding Markdown and using “/” to integrate different parts of the post.

Your niche is definitely achievable in Ghost and allows seamless newsletter publishing on top of having the content readily available online. Especially on the control: Public, Free Members, Paid Members, Specific Tiers.

There is a wealth of information in the forums here.

Thank you @KBExit for that speedy and comprehensive response. Your advice is much appreciated.

I will chase up all those links.

You could always start here:

Additionally you have the official manual here:

I think both of those should keep you busy for a while. :slightly_smiling_face:

As you said your background is writing/content creation, then no, I don’t think learning the technical side would be worthwhile for you unless you just want to learn it for fun. If you would rather focus on the writing/content creation, don’t bother learning the technical stuff.
