Hi all,
Ghost’s decision to eliminate the portal button on mobile websites was a big bummer for me; it was the most in-your-face way of getting people to subscribe.
Right now, I have a little website description and subscribe button in the middle of my page, which is a feature of the theme I use. There’s also a subscribe link in my menu. However, I was wondering if there are any workarounds to the lack of a portal button for mobile users? For context, my website is https://mobtownredux.news/.
I’d appreciate the help. Thanks!
I was taken aback by the omission of the portal on mobile devices. I think the reasoning to remove it was sound, and most themes do take care of subscriptions already as well, but I believe the portal button should at least be optional for people that appreciate it.
My currently preferred workaround is to have an ‘account’ link in my main menu that I added myself, which points to /#/portal/account so logged in users are taken to, well, their accounts and logged out users (almost everybody, I assume) is presented with a login link but, here’s the important part, after logging in the context of the menu hasn’t changed based on their login state.
This way, I can simply tell everybody to click ‘Account’ in the menu, without having to explain the process or teach them about Ghost’s Member Portal (or the concept of memberships in Ghost period)
