Hi.
I’d like to add commenting to my site, which uses the latest version of ghost on the basic $11/mo. plan. Do I have to pay ghost $25/month to have commenting by my site, which is seen sporatically by 10s of people, or is there a way I can add commenting without having to re-upload altered themes, which isn’t allowed under the basic plan?
All help appreciated.
Thank you,
Keith.
Hi Keith - native commenting is not offered in Ghost on any plan, yet. You’ll want to explore some of the integrations and options that are out there. This thread is a good place to start: How to enable comments in Ghost blogs in 2020?. Several of them are free or very low-cost options.
Thanks for the reply. I think I was about as clear as mud, though.
The basic plan, as I understand it, does not allow me to edit and re-upload themes, thus preventing me from implementing any commenting platform, free, low cost or otherwise. If I’m right, that would force me into the higher priced plan in order to accomplish what I’m after. I might be wrong here. I’m not sure.
If I can edit and re-upload the Casper theme I’m using, super cool. If not, do you happen to know a way to implement comments by just, say, code injection?
Apologies for not being clearer earlier.
Keith.

Hello Keith, here are a few points to help clarify things.
Do I have to pay ghost $25/month to have commenting by my site
- Yes. You can’t customize theme files to support a commenting integration on the Starter ($11/month) plan.
is there a way I can add commenting without having to re-upload altered themes
- No. Custom integrations require at least the Creator plan or higher, as it requires editing your theme files for support.

- There isn’t a way to do this without altering your theme files. The Creator plan or higher is the only avenue to take if commenting is a requirement for their site.
“Yet”
Can we hope to see native comments being part of Ghost in the near future?
I picked up on you saying ‘YET’.

@emily-g @david_ramos Is native commenting on the roadmap at all?
