I’m pretty new to Ghost and have pretty simple questions:
In my settings > Email Newsletters > Newsletters > Edit > General section I have the possibilities to edit Sender name and Reply-to email, but no “Sender Mail Address” and therefore cannot change the ghost.io address.
In Posts, if I highlight a text and try to link a URL or even a Page within the same site, it does not show after I hit enter. Only possibilities are the suggested Posts of my page.
Are these bugs of an old version? Apparently, I am using 5.96.0-1-g09f0f51+moya
Hi Lam,
glad you found Ghost, many things that seem odd is due to the integrations with Stripe and MailGun. Ghost does not send e-mails, they are handed over to MailGun which does the messy stuff of sending out e-mails, processing bounces, registering reads, and reporting back to Ghost.
but no “Sender Mail Address” and therefore cannot change the ghost.io address.
Yes, you are technically using GhostPro’s MailGun account, and will send from something@ghost.io
In Posts, if I highlight a text and try to link a URL or even a Page within the same site, it does not show after I hit enter. Only possibilities are the suggested Posts of my page.
Unexpected, here I type in a URL and hit enter, and the selected text is linked.
If you have the URL in clipboard, you can just select the text and ctrl-v paste it, and text will be linked. You may want to add the https:// in front, else it doesn’t trigger… this does not work…
According to the Ghost manual, I should be able to change the “Sender email address”, no? But in my settings that shown field does not appear. So where might it be?
And as you can see above, I am able to post links as you suggested. Just within Ghost, strangely since today, that does not apply anymore. As soon as I paste a URL and hit enter - or I search for a Page and click on the suggested found page - boom, nothing happens. No link is being made, the text stays a simple text without any link. The only pages I seem to be able to link to, are other posts! This must be a bug. Or maybe a problem within my Firefox browser?
Ghost can be self-hosted or hosted. With self-hosting you set up your own MailGun account and go through verification - they are very concerned about spambots and it takes two weeks to get up and running. With your own MailGun account (self-hosting) you can send from any email address and it will look like this…
If you’re on GhostPro the sender will always be yoursite@ghost.io by default since you’re using GhostPro’s MailGun account - this way you’ll be up and running instantly, you don’t have to verify and get approved by MailGun, and no DNS configuration of MX, SPF and DKIM records.
You can set up your own sending domain from the GhostPro menu, and add the DMARC, SPF, and DKM records in your domains DNS config.
The sender e-mail adress is managed by MailGun, Ghost is not sending e-mails, MailGun is doing all the heavy lifting.
I guess the manual is for self-hosted, you may want to double check this with GhostPro support.
Re Linking, I tried Windows 10 Firefox 130.0.1 and 131.0.2 - works as expected. Switched FF to Strict privacy mode as well. Have you tried disabling plug-ins which might be interfering?
You can adjust your from address in managed hosting, too. You need to have a custom domain set up, and then an option appears (in the Ghost Pro section of the dashboard) to set up a custom email domain.
thank you both for your help. I was able to locate my linking problem which was simply an issue of an older browser version. Sorry about that!
And being only on Starter (the same as Admin?) plan would explain the impossibility to change the original newsletter address - at least in the newsletter template section. @Cathy_Sarisky : I do hav a custom domain set up, but I can’t see any options to set up a custom email domain:
Since you’re hosting with Ghost Pro, you may want to email them to see if they can help you sort out your email settings. I’m not sure if the Starter plan includes a custom email setup or not.
