How do we change the maximum excerpt length?

I’m trying to publish a post but I get an error:

Excerpt cannot be longer than 300 characters.

Even more perniciously, it won’t even let you save the draft if the excerpt is over 300 characters.

Edit: Seems like this is a Ghost-based limitation.

How can it be changed? Why is there even a limit in the first place?

Not sure if this helps you but apparently the excerpt character length can be set by adding characters=“x” to wherever {{excerpt}} appears in your theme. Not sure if this can override the apparent 300 character limit tho?

I want to bump this because it’s still an issue. Auto-save nor manual saving works when the excerpt is over 300 characters. Why? What is the purpose of that? :thinking:
