Some of our emails to live.com, msn.com, hotmail.com aren’t making it, instead mailgun is reporting this error:
5.7.1 Unfortunately, messages from [.3] weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list (S3140). You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors.
I’ve put a ticket into Mailgun to see if we can find some resolution.
However, given that this is affecting our ability for some members to even sign up, is it possible to adjust Ghost so that transactional email is sent via our own SMTP (we use Google Workspace) and email newsletters go via Mailgun?
and looking through the last few hundred members to sign up, sure enough, no sign of any live.com, msn.com, hotmail.com addresses as those people would never have received the confirmation link.
You have lots of options for transactional (sign up) email. You’re only limited to mailgun for newsletters.
So, just an update: Mailgun support removed one of the IP addresses our account was using to send email, which was causing an issue with Microsoft consumer email addresses. Unfortunately, three-quarters of the other IPs used on our account are also showing up on spam lists and having Microsoft delivery issues.
The only workaround is to upgrade to the Mailgun 100K plan, which costs $75 / month.
It would be great if there were plans to support alternative bulk sending options, such as running our own in-house email server.
