I know this is probably an armature question, but can you explain why in the admin settings, it’s giving the options to make the site/meta titles as well as the descriptions different than each other?

Site title and description to me is self explanatory - Name of website + description of the site.

But then why would one want to possible make the meta title and description anything different? Wouldn’t putting a different title here confuse things? If you didn’t put your website name here, whatever you were to put would show up as the website name in the SERP.

I guess can you explain to me what benefit there would be if any as to having them different than each other rather than the same?

Site Title

The site title serves as a designated field for theme data, specifically designed for the Ghost theme to render on the homepage or other pages according to the theme developer’s preferences. It typically appears as an H1 tag on your page.

Meta Title

The meta title is focused on SEO. If you already have a meta title, you don’t need to worry about the site title. The meta title should differ from the site title because it needs to be optimized for SEO, adhering to character limits and lengths, while the site title is primarily optimized for display on landing pages.

Default Fallback Method

By default, to enhance user experience and as a fallback method, theme developers often use the site title as the meta title if the user does not fill in the site title field. This acts as a safety net for SEO purposes.

Personal Practice

I always use different site titles and meta titles, and you shouldn’t encounter any issues with this approach.

Site Title & Site Description

  • Site Title: This is the name of your website, such as “The Jetsetter Cheap” It typically appears at the top of your website (in the header or menu) and is also commonly used in the title of the home page.

  • Site Description: This is usually a brief tagline or summary of your site

2. Meta Title & Meta Description

  • Meta Title: This is the title that appears in the search engine results (SERP) and in the browser’s tab. For example, it’s what Google shows as the clickable link in search results.

  • Meta Description: This is the description shown under the title in search results, which summarizes the content of that page. You should use your important keywords there

Wow, I know I should be able to understand this considering I have 5 websites but I do not.

You said my meta title is focused on SEO ,and that my Meta title should be different than my site title because it needs to be optimized for SEO.

Can you give me a random example either of your site, or something else so I can better understand this. In my eyes, based on what you are saying I would want my Meta title to be the company name? Otherwise how will you be easily found in search results.

My website is Jetsetter Alerts, I simply have Jetsetter Alerts in the Meta title, but if that isn’t what I should be doing please let me know. I realize everyone does things differently, but any tips or advise here is greatly appreciated.
