Why is the theme Casper marked as "legacy"?

I noticed that the theme “Casper” is called “legacy”:

Why is that the case? What’s legacy with it? Are there newer Ghost features that don’t work with it?

Well, for one, I cannot get the “Recommend” feature working on that theme. I really like Casper, but, the fact that it says Legacy and the fact that I cannot show my recommendations, I think it’s not up to date.

It cannot recommend other posts at the bottom of a post? That’s the feature you are referring to?

You cannot recommend links. People use this feature to recommend other newsletters or blogs, or link to their other communities / sites. Even internal links work. This feature is on with the Sourch theme and others, but does not work with Casper.

Recommendations work fine, there’s just not a built in way to display them. You can still link the portal page that shows them.

Can you elaborate? I’m a noob haha

Casper is marked as legacy because it’s the old default theme that was replaced by Source, but it’s still included in all Ghost installs due to legacy reasons and to ensure upgrades from old sites don’t have issues. Having a label on it differentiates from user-installed themes and gives some indication as to why there’s no delete option.

Otherwise, the Casper theme is kept up-to-date the same as all other official themes.

Yep, here’s the link to open recommendations:
#/portal/recommendations

That works in any theme, as long as you’re loading the portal. (You almost certainly are.)

Thanks! I didn’t know there was a standalone link for it!
