Word count weirdness

Has something changed recently?

I write in Obsidian, upload the post to Ghost and make the final edits online. I’ve done it like this every week for over a year and never noticed a major discrepancy between Obsidian’s word count and that in the Ghost editor. My posts are usually 3-4k words long. Today I uploaded a 4,216 word post from Obsidian and — after final tweaking (which does not include cutting half of it out ) — the Ghost editor reports 2,617 words.

There’s nothing obviously missing, and adding or deleting individual words increments or decrements the count accordingly. More to the point, selecting and copying everything from the Ghost editor and pasting it back into Obsidian results in the expected ~4,200 words.

I suspect (with very little evidence) some combination of cards has confused the editor’s word count, though I’ve not knowingly done anything different this week from last. My posts are boringly unadorned.

This is a trivial issue, but induced a moment of panic and some frantic re-reading. Has anything changed, and/or are there ways that the word count can be misled?
