Small shop using Ghost?

So I have a lot of things to sell. Most of it vintage stuff that came to me. I tried to get online using Etsy, twice. I cannot seem to work it out plus they take quite a hefty chunk out of ones eventual earnings PLUS charge you up front to actually place an item for sale.

I also looked into Shopify but it has developed insanely since I actually ran a webshop and I felt a bit overwhelmed, and they also have a lot of fees and things that cost extra. So the beginners level doesn’t seem so hot as they pretend for it to be…

So now I am thinking maybe just use my Ghost together with Stripe to do it. I know at least one person out there have done this set up but are there more? What are your experiences?

Since I don’t keep more stock than the ONE item I don’t really need any stock inventory. When it’s gone it’s gone so to speak. Plus if I upgrade my Ghost Pro to the next level I can run a separate news letter only for my shop and one for the semi what dormant blog/podcast I’m running.

Any feedback, brainstorming etc would be highly appreciated.

ps if one can alter ones theme can one then also succeed running Google Ads one ones site?

Yes, you can use Google ads (assuming you can get approved) on a ghost theme, with some theme customization. (Possibly also auto-ads without modification, but it can be hit and miss.)

It’s possible to create items in Stripe and make buy buttons that let someone pay for them. I guess you’d run the risk of someone trying to buy something that had just sold, but only if you’re expecting a lot of traffic.

You could also add a shopping cart (yes, even via code injection) to let someone check out, if you think you’ll have stuff for sale where multiple purchases at once make sense.

Although I can’t vouch for it and know nothing about it, I do recall Shoprocket being mentioned here on the forum. Not sure if it’d be relevant to what you’re after.

I am not sure it is possible to sell an item twice in Stripe.

Even though it is not made for running inventory control you can adjust the settings so a sole item can only be purchased ones.

I believe I will fiddle around with this a bit and see where it goes.

I found another hosted thing (lost the name now) here on the forum that I had never heard of.

Their product is for free for 5 item. That could work with my idea to not keep every item in my store at the same time till I know if it is even possible to find buyers when not being on Etsy…
